Leading fashion brand seeks an Assistant Merchant that supports the development and execution of departmental seasonal strategies and business objectives. Develops a clear understanding of the client and the competition. Assists through the entire Product Life Cycle process. (90% tactical, 10% strategic). The ideal candidate must beproficient in excel. This is a freelance or temp to perm role with an immediate start.
Essential Responsibilities
Financial / Operational:
• Begin to understand components of analyzing business. Become proficient in retail math. Generate and distribute reports for department and team.
• Become proficient in reading all company reports.
• Maintain assortment sheets. Reconcile and update receipts and communication to Merch Planning. Begin to demonstrate an ability to understand forecasting and its components. Execute chase/cancel strategies.
• Purchase order maintainance: uploading, coding, price changes.
• Supports prep work for key PLC meetings ie weekly analysis, line review, financial circle-back, MMPR, hindsight.
• Recommends markdowns to merchandising and planning.
• Maintain samples and archives.
Requirements
Experience: 6 months – 2 years prior experience as an Assistant Merchandiser

• Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of financial measurements

• Ability to work in a team environment
• Broad based business acumen with the potential to grow to the Merchant level
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Education: Bachelors degree or equivalent
